Children’s Home & Aid, in consultation with the Illinois Department of Children and Families, recently began a pilot program to remove barriers for youth in care to receive their driver’s license. For clients in Children’s Home & Aid’s standard foster care program, the agency can provide funding for driver’s education, driving lessons, and any fees associated with earning the license. As part of the pilot, Children’s Home & Aid will provide data to the state to identify further barriers to earning a driver’s license and to guide future programming.
